Recently, we embarked on the journey of buying and fixing up a used bucket truck, and let me tell you, it’s been quite the adventure so far. Here’s how it all is unfolding.
We bought a used 2005 F550 Altec bucket truck. After some test drives and running the boom we decided to pull the trigger. We knew we had some work ahead of us, but we weren’t really prepared for how in depth it was going to get.
We started with the low hanging fruit and began addressing the cosmetic issues. The truck had a lot of rust. We cut out most of the rust and replaced with new metal. The chip box got a major upgrade as well as the boom platform. We purchased and installed a new bucket as the old one was cracked and in not safe condition. We got some new paint on it and it began to look better.
Then…we opened up the hood and started digging into the engine. After identifying a couple issues, parts were ordered and repairs were made to stop the leaks and get the truck running like new.
We have a few more days of repairs to do, but we cant wait to get our “new to us” truck out there and get cutting!
